On October 25th, the Agricultural Society gathered it’s members, volunteers and fall fair exhibitors for an annual potluck dinner and awards ceremony. Here we award trophies and prize money for the “best of” exhibitors at the fair. This year, we also created 4 new trophies to honour 3 past volunteers we tragically lost from this world in the past year and for a new SRMAS leader.
If you are interested in competing next year, fair books one and two are good for this last year of 2026. The South River Machar library always has copies available. Or you can vdownload here, at our website under Fall Fair Books. We will be writing our 2027-2032 Fair book through the coming seasons and welcome input ~ contact us at srmasff@gmail.com to get involved.
4 New Trophies were created this year to honour 3 people in memory of their significant volunteer contributions to the SRMAS over past years and a new young leader on our Board;
Lynn Mantha Memorial Award for the SRMAS Heavy Horse Pull - Light Weight Division
Henry Middlebrook Memorial Award for the SRMAS Heavy Horse Pull - HeavyWeight Division
Pat Middlebrook Memorial Award for Overall SRMAS Fall Fair High Point Champion
We were honoured to have members of both Lynn and Pat and Henry’s families attend the awards to initiate these trophies, share in stories of their contributions and also accept as we arranged;
A Certificate for 50 years of service and outstanding volunteerism from the Ontario Provincial Government and one for over 50 years of service and outstanding volunteerism from the Canadian federal government.
Another new trophy we introduced this year was Outstanding Volunteer Work by a Junior which this first year was inspired by SRMAS Director; Mia Beatty. Mia was a part of significant growth in the engagement and increase in entries from other Juniors ( younger than 18 ) members in this year’s Hall Classes. She organized a series of craft workshops for children and youth through the past summer, contributed to decisions of the Board of Directors and helped out at several of our events, including the Fall Fair.
The entertainment for Awards Night was thankfully provided by local musician, ** and the photos provided by SRMAS Direcotr Robyn Leegstra of Pine Acres Farm.
