On September 24th, the South River Machar Agricultural Society gathered it’s members, volunteers and fall fair exhibitors for a potluck luncheon. The purpose of the luncheon is to hand out awards, trophies and money for the “best of” exhibitors at the fair. We had some nail-biting competitions too, as there were only 1 or 2 points that separated the best from the second best!
If you are interested in competing next year, fair books one and two are good until 2026. The South River Machar library always has copies available. Or you can download here, at our website under Fall Fair Book.
This year’s awards luncheon dedicated the poultry and small livestock barn to W. McLaren & Sons for their three-generations commitment to helping the agricultural society be the best it can be. Most recently donating all of the lumber for our new livestock pens. Thanks goes out to the Middlebrook men who constructed the pens that housed the geese, ducks and a pig at this year’s fair.
We also honoured ag society member June Mannella with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her hard work and handiwork, commitment and contribution for over 75 years to the South River Machar Agricultural Society. That's a lot of fall fairs!
The entertainment for the luncheon was provided by local highschool student Nils Buzora who played the soprano saxophone, clarinet, bass clarinet and keyboard.
